As Muslims across Nigeria joined the global Islamic community in celebrating Eid-el-Fitr, prominent leaders, including state governors and lawmakers, extended their felicitations, emphasizing messages of unity, peace, and national progress.
The leaders urged Nigerians to uphold the values of compassion, tolerance, and social harmony beyond the holy month of Ramadan.
Ogun State Governor Celebrates Muslims
Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State congratulated the Muslim faithful for their steadfastness in prayer and charity throughout Ramadan. In his goodwill message, he highlighted the significance of the season as an opportunity to strengthen the bonds of love and unity across communities, the state, and the nation at large.
“On behalf of myself and the Government of Ogun State, I celebrate all our Muslim brothers and sisters on this great day of Eid-el-Fitr,” he stated. “Eid offers us an opportunity to renew our bond of love with one another as a community, state, and nation.”
Abiodun acknowledged Nigeria’s economic and security challenges but expressed optimism that the prayers offered during Ramadan would yield divine intervention for the country.
Fayemi Calls for Unity and Shared Humanity
Former Ekiti State Governor and ex-Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, underscored the importance of national unity, compassion, and shared humanity.
In a statement issued by his media office, Fayemi described Eid-el-Fitr as a time for reflection and gratitude, urging Nigerians to prioritize peaceful coexistence. He called on citizens to reject divisive tendencies and instead harness the nation’s diversity as a strength.
“Regardless of our ethnic, religious, or political differences, we are first and foremost Nigerians,” he said. “Our diversity is our greatest strength, and our unity is our most powerful weapon against adversity.”
Senator Adeola Advocates for Tolerance and Peaceful Coexistence
Senator Olamilekan Adeola, representing Ogun West, urged Muslims to sustain the spiritual discipline and virtues learned during Ramadan. He emphasized the importance of piety, fairness, and justice in fostering peace and national development.
“Let us continue to renew our hope for a secure nation and a prosperous future under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Adeola said. “Tolerance and peaceful coexistence should be a way of life for all of us.”
Governors Buni and Ododo Emphasize Love and Security
In Yobe State, Governor Mai Mala Buni expressed gratitude for a peaceful Ramadan and reassured citizens of his administration’s commitment to people-oriented programs. He encouraged cooperation with security agencies to maintain stability and peace.
“We should continue to be our brother’s keepers, spread love, and make sacrifices to accommodate one another,” Buni said. “We are all stakeholders responsible for ensuring peace and security.”
Similarly, Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, delivered his Eid message at the Muhammad Buhari Square in Lokoja, emphasizing the lessons of compassion and peace.
“My message to the people as they celebrate Eid-el-Fitr is for them to continue to reflect on the lessons of compassion, peace, and progress,” he said, urging collective efforts in developing the state.
Kebbi and Plateau Governors Call for Prayers and Resilience
Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, appealed to citizens to offer continuous prayers for peace and security. He emphasized the importance of kindness and charity, particularly toward the less privileged in society.
“As Muslims, we need to put into practice the lessons we have learned from this holy month by being kind to one another,” Idris said.
In his Eid message, Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, stressed the importance of prayer and resilience, noting that true wealth lies in the compassion extended to others rather than material possessions.
“Ramadan reminds us that true wealth is not in material possessions but in the compassion and love we extend to one another,” he said. He called for unity and a shared vision in building a better Plateau State.
Bauchi and Zamfara Leaders Promote Forgiveness and Rebuilding
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, who performed Umrah in Saudi Arabia, encouraged Nigerians to embrace forgiveness and community-building efforts.
“Eid is a time of spiritual renewal, gratitude, and forgiveness. Let us support the less privileged, promote unity, and strengthen bonds within our communities,” he wrote on Facebook.
Meanwhile, Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, through his spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, emphasized the need for collective efforts to rebuild the state amid existing challenges.
“The challenges before us are enormous and require collective effort and cooperation to be addressed,” Lawal said, appreciating religious and community leaders for their role in promoting harmony.
Gombe Governor Stresses Moral Integrity
Governor Muhammadu Yahaya of Gombe State urged citizens to uphold moral integrity and continue practicing the values learned during Ramadan.
“The virtues of sacrifice, selflessness, love, and obedience to the principles of Islam that Eid-el-Fitr represents should inspire us to continue promoting harmony and peaceful coexistence in our society,” Yahaya said.
Kaduna Senator Calls for Divine Intervention
Senator Lawal Usman of Kaduna Central used the occasion to advocate for prayers to address national insecurity and economic hardship.
“On this auspicious occasion of the 2025 Eid-el-Fitr, I urge the Muslim ummah to use this period to pray for an end to insecurity, hardship, and economic challenges in our various communities and the country as a whole,” Usman said in his statement.
