Nathaniel Bassey Warns Against ‘Unholy Obsession,’ Urges Christians to Focus on God

Renowned gospel artist and pastor Nathaniel Bassey has issued a strong warning to his followers, cautioning them against turning their passion for ministers and gospel artists into an “unholy obsession.” He emphasized that faith should remain centered on God alone rather than on any human figure.

Taking to his X handle on Monday, Bassey reminded Christians that not knowing him or other popular ministers does not diminish one’s faith.

He also clarified that choosing not to participate in his midnight prayer session, the Hallelujah Challenge, does not make anyone less of a believer.

Faith is Not About People, But About God

In his statement, Bassey encouraged believers to maintain a balanced perspective, warning against the tendency to idolize gospel figures. He stressed that true Christianity is rooted in a personal relationship with God, not in the recognition or following of certain ministers.

“Not knowing Nathaniel Bassey or any of the young vibrant servants of God does not make you any less a Christian,” he stated. “There are so many Christians who have never heard of me nor my music. It doesn’t make them any less Christians. They don’t have to know me. I’m not the best thing after sliced bread.”

He further referenced Romans 12:3, which urges believers not to think of themselves more highly than they ought but to remain humble according to the measure of faith given to them.

Caution Against Idolizing Ministers

Bassey’s caution comes as a reminder that while spiritual leaders and gospel artists play an important role in guiding believers, they should never replace the ultimate focus God.

In an era where social media amplifies the popularity of ministers and Christian influencers, there is a growing risk of placing more emphasis on personalities than on God’s word.

The message resonated with many Christians, sparking discussions on the importance of maintaining a Christ-centered faith.

A Call to True Worship

Nathaniel Bassey’s warning serves as a timely call for believers to examine their faith and ensure their devotion is directed toward God alone.

His message reinforces the biblical principle that God, not man, should be the focus of worship, and that spiritual leaders are simply vessels through whom God works.

As believers navigate their faith journeys, Bassey’s words serve as a powerful reminder: Honor ministers, appreciate their work, but let your heart remain fixed on God alone.
